The Devotion of Regional Society

The complete collection is composed of donations from over 180 people; in this inaugural exhibition, some 300 cultural properties donated by personages from regional society will be put on display. Items exhibited will include the following: Korean and Chinese ceramics possessing academic value; fragments of ceramics unearthed from Chinese kiln sites and fragments of Japanese ceramics, which are rare in Korea; a large taegeuk flag representing an important record of the history of the Korean independence movement; a royal court painting of ten longevity symbols on a folding screen recognized for its artistic value; and items of clothing and personal ornaments that bespeak their previous owners¡¯ personal style.
All of these tell the story of their donors¡¯ concern and love for Korean culture.
The Donated Artifacts Exhibition Hall, unlike previous views that sought to accentuate the historical and cultural worth of certain works, seeks to focus on the donors and on their acts of ¡°donation,¡± and thereby contribute to an expansion of the practice of donation in Korea, and to help in advancing an era of shared culture.
